Ainol Novo9 Firewire Spark Quad Core Tablet PC

Looking for the perfect tablet computer? Something highly functional but costs less than your typical bestselling tablet? Then this might just be your next bundle of joy.

As the name implies, the Ainol Novo9 Firewire Spark Quad Core Tablet PC (hereon referred to as the Firewire) runs on a 1.5-GHz quad-core processor, faster than several other tablets that usually run on dual-core processors. It also has internal memory of 16GB, perfect for storing your favorite applications. If you need more memory than that, simply get a TransFlash (micro SD) memory card that will give you up to 32GB additional memory. In addition, the Firewire has a retina screen, something that most tablets don’t have. It gives your viewing pleasures a whole new experience!

The Firewire also covers all your basic needs for a tablet PC: support for various video, music, photo, and e-book formats, e-mail and browser, Wi-Fi, OfficeSuite, several different languages, and other applications. It also has a dual camera functionality: one 2.0-megapixel camera in front, and one 5.0-megapixel autofocus camera at the back.

Ainol Novo9 Firewire Spark

More than that, it has a TF card slot, a micro USB port, a 3.5mm audio port, and a Mini HDMI port besides the charging port. These ports eliminate the need to buy another adaptor! And if you are fond of multitasking or playing games, you will find that the tablet’s multi-touch feature comes in handy. The battery lives for as long as 10 hours when continuously used for videos, which means that for the average user, the battery can last for as much as two days!

Now you might be wondering how this baby fares in comparison to other tablets, especially those made by the current market leaders (Samsung and Apple). Well, I am happy to say that the Firewire is actually pretty competent! I took the closest possible competitors based on my own evaluation (the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, and the Apple iPad 2), and juxtaposed a few of their features with the Firewire, as seen in the table below:

Specification Samsung Galaxy      Tab 10.1 Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus Apple iPad 2 Ainol Novo9 Firewire Spark Quad Core Tablet PC
   Price (PHP) Up to 32,000 Approximately 23,000 Up to 24,990 (w/ Wi-Fi + 3G) 15,000 (no discount)
Operating System Android 3.0 Honeycomb Android 3.0 Honeycomb iOS 6.1 Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean
      Processor 1GHz Dual-Core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor 1.2GHz Dual-Core processor Dual-Core A5 Allwinner A31, Cortex A7 Quad Core, 1.5GHz
          RAM 1GB 1GB 512MB DDR2 2GB DDR3
          ROM 16/32/64GB 16/32GB + micro SD (up to 32GB) 16GB 16GB + micro SD (up to 32GB)

According to the table, in most instances, the Firewire offers something better than its competitors. For instance, who would’ve thought that it would have a quad-core processor for so much less? And the RAM is so much larger and more advanced, resulting in a significantly better experience using this tablet.

To have all these features and more at the palm of your hands (literally) for a very reasonable price almost seems too good to be true. But the Firewire actually makes this possible. As you have seen, it is really something that will give you value for your money. It may not be the most famous tablet out there, but it provides a lot of features that are better than or comparable to the current bestselling tablets in the market. So, what are you waiting for? Reserve your very own tablet now while the price is still at a heavenly discount!

Digitag Mini LED Projector

Who would have thought graphic displays can be this easy? With the drastic advancements brought about by technology, MP3 sounds can now be played on handy phones, pictures can be taken in hand held devices, and even the magical experience of watching a movie at a theater can now be felt within the comfort of our own living room.

Speaking of movies, I just love to watch them. I’m a movie person. I can watch five movies in a row without sparing a blink. It’s unfortunate that our home doesn’t have the luxury of a widescreen Smart TV. There are times when I think to myself: “If only I had a quality projector.”

My daydreaming came to an end when I was first introduced to the Digitag Mini LED Projector on the Internet. Emphasis on the “Mini”. This device has the length of 12.7, a width of 12.6, and a height of 5.6cm. That it only weighs 0.5 kilograms makes it practical for traveling and outdoor use. Awesome, right?

Digitag Mini LED Projector

Aside from the convenience of its structure, the Digitag Mini also has a feature that allows you to store music files, pictures, and, of course movies. Through this projector, you can get to watch endless movies without having to step foot on a video store. All you need to do is plug it and grab two things: its remote and a bucket of popcorn.

Aside from the to-love features mentioned above, here are some of the main functions and attractions of the Digitag LED Mini Projector:

1) The Digitag Mini LED Projector has a built-in SD card slot that supports up to 32 gigabytes of SD card.

Those who don’t have flash drives need not worry for most phones have SD cards, which happen to be accessible with this device. Simply plug your phone’s SD card to the projector to access your files on the screen instantly. It’s that easy.

2) It also has a VGA interface for connection to a laptop, computer or a XGA TV box like Gadmei 2830e.

If the files you need to view are in the computer or in your laptop, the device’s VGA interface will give you the connection you need.

3) The device can also accept traditional RCA audio video signal from your DVD player.

In the same way, if the files you needed to view are in the CD in your DVD player, the RCA is the quick answer to your small dilemma.

4) Finally, the Digitag Mina has built-in speakers and a remote interface for easy device control operation.

This eliminates the need to spend extra for heavy-duty speakers.

Other attributes of the Digitag Mini Led Projector include:

  • Fully sealed case design, efficient cooling channel to enhance the overall stability and life of the product
  • LED light source with a life span of 20,000 hours, vibrant colors and richer image detail
  • Electronic image zoom function
  • Supports 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio
  • Supports image reversal, normal and flip image display.

24 watts low power consumption, green environmental friendly and supports car power supply interface

Air Mouse vs. Leap Motion Controller

What do we want? Motion controlled computers! When do we want it? Why now, of course! Computer junkies, gadget techies, die hard gamers, dedicated graphic artists (or in my case all of the above) would all agree to set aside all differences and converge on the sole idea that manipulating time and space (our computers) through motions, hand gestures and all that would be extremely bad-ass! You get the drift, right?

Now what I have here are 2 seemingly high-tech gadgets dug up from a science fiction novel: the Air Mouse and the Leap Motion Controller, both of which, at first sight, seem to promise what we all want. But, the question is, do they actually live up to our expectations, or should I say, our desires? And if so, which one has the technological edge? Let’s find out!

Measy RC12 Air Mouse

Air Mouse

Let us first take a gander at the air mouse. What is it and what does it really have to offer to us?

The air mouse is just like your typical mouse in the sense that it almost functions exactly as the latter. It is, however, constructed completely differently. Ever seen “Iron Man”? Course you have. In a few sequences, we can see Robert Downy Jr. using a glove to control his futuristic computers. He waves his hand here and there and holographic apparitions of computer programs obey his commands.

One version of the air mouse pretty much looks the same as the glove used in the movie. However, the most common designs though are patterned from the image featured above, which is the Measy RC12 2-IN-1 Air Mouse. To build your confidence towards the device’s functionalities, I’ve listed down three of the many benefits that the air mouse have.

1) It gives you space and mobility as you take it across the room and still be able to control your computer.

2) It improves user-experience. Who would’ve thought that using a remote can be so much fun?

3) It light weight allows your hands to function in more relaxed positions. Did you know that using a tradition mouse for an extended period of time can cause serious strain injuries?

Leap Motion

Now let’s jump into the Leap Motion! Get it… jump… leap? I love puns!

So what’s with the Leap Motion gadget that Mac users are going nuts about? The Leap Motion Controller is a small gadget that connects to your computer via USB, transforming it into a virtually-3D interface! Think of it as Microsoft Kinect, only two hundred times better! The Leap Motion is able to track your hand movements up to a hundredth of a millimeter! May the force be with us!

The best way to describe how the Leap Motion Controller works is to imagine a touch screen tablet or smartphone. The gestures you do with your hand on touch screens are basically what the Leap Motion mimics – only you don’t have to touch anything but air! Not to be biased against the air mouse or anything, but I believe that the Leap Motion Controller is the first to successfully bring us closer to the future of computers! I encourage you to look up this awesome gadget if you haven’t already and I dare you to tell me that you’re not impressed!

But wait! I haven’t even gotten to the best part yet! The price! The Leap Motion Controller only costs $79.99! Enough said. Go look it up…now!

There you have it people – a comparison of two of the coolest sounding technological peripherals for the future of mankind. Take a virtual trip to your go-to online store and further delve into their awesomeness!

Here’s an official statement from Mr. Richard Yu, the Chief Executive Officer at Huawei Consumer Business Group:

“Ascend P2 is the perfect combination of elegance and power, and further proof that there’s no need to compromise when desiring a perfect smartphone. It is evidence of the outstanding smartphone experiences and great technology that we are committed to bringing to consumers globally,”

Mr. Yu further said that the smartphone can be programmed to display an excess of 100 different themes or appearances. This is going to create an abundance of new Huawei fans. In regard to Apple’s tendency to competitive companies, Miss Amy Lou, global brand director of Huawei said: “It has not been an easy journey for us…”

Though this expresses minor concerns for Huawei, Ms. Lou ends her speech on a positive note by claiming that Huawei is “a great consumer brand in the making.”

Reports say that the Ascend P2 will be released somewhere during the 2nd quarter of 2013 in most of the world’s regions, although the stores of Bangladesh won’t have any stocks until July.

NEWSFLASH: Samsung’s 8 Inch Slate to Hit the Market

In today’s modern age, the greatest asset that the economy has are people. And how effective people are at their contribution to the economy is dictated by how much resources they have at their disposal. The essence of time and efficiency is highly valued, and modern day gadgets like smartphones and tablets are helpful to today’s businessman.

Recently, Samsung has unveiled the new Galaxy Note 8.0 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which is what some may call, the best of both worlds. It is both a smartphone and a tablet, and even though Samsung has chosen to delve away from the common 7-inch screen that most tablets on the market seem to prefer, it still manages to be bigger that the 7.9-inch screen that comprise Apple’s iPad Mini.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0

Running on Andriod 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 features the Samsung TouchWiz user interface. With a 1280×800 resolution and a widescreen TFT LCD display, this marvelous device measures 8 inches diagonally, which is more or less the same as the Note II. The Galaxy Note 8.0 comes with a stylus, and although it hasn’t exactly captured the appeal of Americans, it seems to be quite popular in Europe and Asia.

The heart of the Galaxy Note 8.0 is a 1.6Hz quad-core processor with 2 GB of RAM, which is available in either 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage. Your final choice won’t cause any setback though, since both versions support microSD cards. Additionally, this latest from Samsung features 2 cameras, which are forward-facing and 5-megapixel and can record 1080p HD video. A 1.3 megapixel front camera for video chat puts the icing on the cake.

Want a strawberry on top of that icing? The Galaxy Note 8.0 supports various wireless options, such as WiFi, GPS, NFC, GLONASS, and Bluetooth. There will be an LTE version, which will allow it to be utilized as a dedicated smartphone. Still not enough information? Maybe it’s time for you to visit your trusty online store.

The combination of a phone and a tablet seems to be something that would come out of a movie. The ever-handy communicator of the science fiction genre is quite similar to a Skype video call on the Galaxy Note 8.0, which is something that a Bond villain would love to utilize. There might just be a slight learning curve to this since people may need some time to adjust in making calls on an 8-inch phone.

Now, all of the features of the Galaxy Note 8.0 seems to be quite what is needed to compete with Apple’s iPad Mini, but all of its features may also create confusion to users on what it really is. The question still remains as whether it could initiate a new wireless revolution. At the moment, Apple seems to have a firm grip on the tablet market, and much larger screen size may not be enough to oust Apple from their throne, but then again, we have experienced a lot of shifts over the years, most of which have very much surprised us.

In conclusion, the release of the Galaxy Note 8.0 shows that innovation is not dead; something that is already efficient can indeed be made more efficient, if there ever was a term as “more efficient”.

How MyPhone Android Phones Slowly Creeps Marketshare Against Samsung

As the Philippines was once known as the texting capital of the world, it is not that surprising that Filipinos are able to develop their very own smartphone that can compete with well-known brands. MyPhone was launched on Spetember 2007, and since its introduction, it has brought the joys of owning an mobile phone to every Filipino. August 2012 marked the release of a 1GHz Android Dual-SIM smartphone, the A858 Duo, to the public, which gave people a chance to own a quality smartphone at a very reasonable price.

Before we go on any further, let’s conduct a quick background check. Solid Group, Inc, the name behind the MyPhone brand, pocketed PHP 2 billion in unit sales for the year 2010, reflecting a 9-fold sales increase from 2009. As of 2011, MyPhone holds as much as 40% of the Philippines’ mobile phone market, and with the introduction of newer Android models that are more affordable than established brands, such as Samsung, we can expect their sale to increase even further this 2013. And as Android gradually climbs to the top of the mobile operating system leaderboards, the future numbers for MyPhone are looking high and bright.

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S4 to kick-start the second quarter of 2013, and although the specifications of this device is truly amazing, one has to consider whether it will have any impact on the Philippine smartphone market. One has to admit that the price range between MyPhone and Samsung are worlds apart. For the price of one Samsung Galaxy S3, one can buy 2 MyPhone smartphones with almost the same specifications and features. So, not everyone will be able to afford Samsung’s latest products, which cannot be said for the products of MyPhone. Consider, for example, the A919 Duo that was released in November of last year.

MyPhone A919 Duo

MyPhone A919 Duo Detailed Specifications:

  • 1GHz dual-core MediaTek MT6577 processor
  • PowerVR SGX531 GPU
  • 512MB RAM / 4GB ROM / microSD up to 32GB
  • 8MP autofocus camera with dual LED flash & 720p HD video recording
  • VGA (0.3MP) front camera
  • 5.0-inch FWVGA (854 x 480) IPS Capacitive Display, 16M colors (196ppi) with 5-point multi-touch feature
  • Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • HSDPA: 7.2Mbps, HSUPA: 5.76Mbps
  • WiFI 802.11b/g/n, WiFi Direct, WiFi HotSpot
  • Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP
  • GPS with A-GPS support
  • MicroUSB v2.0 (USB-OTG support) / 3.5mm audio jack / TV-Out / FM Radio
  • Accelerometer / Proximity / Gravity / Environment Light Sensor
  • 2,000mAh Li-Ion battery

Overall, the specs for the A919 duo are pretty decent for that time. Additionally, MyPhone has officially delved into the tablet industry in its release of Android run tablets that can probably compete with Apple’s iPad in terms of sales in the Philippines. But then again, it is still too early to make such statements.

It really is amazing as to how MyPhone is able to compete with powerhouses such as Samsung. But what is even more astonishing is that, for such a low price tag, MyPhone has never sacrificed quality.
